Program Outline
The Dream Girls College Tour takes the ‘College’ Curriculum topic to a much deeper level. This Program is structured for highschool aged girls that are taking serious consideration of Higher education for their future.
The Dream Girls College Tour is designed to introduce high school aged girls between the ages of 14-18 years to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), new cities and states and give them the opportunity to experience different environmental climates and cultures. We will provide girls with new exposures and experiences that will encourage them to not only dream bigger, but to make more informed decisions concerning their education and futures.
Experience
Advanced education can open the door to endless possibilities in a young woman’s life, not only from an academic perspective, but also from a personal growth perspective. The Dream Girls College Tour experience is designed as a week-long ‘road trip’ with 25 – 30 inner city girls and their chaperones (who has been fully cleared with a Background Check by Dream Keepers Inc.) focused around college tours of HBCUs and structured to include many more experiences as follows:
College Preparation – With the focus of the trip being college tours of HBCUs, the girls will be provided a taste of college life, receive information on the admissions process and financial aid and explore the importance of considering college in their future dreams.
New Cities and States – Many girls do not have the opportunity to travel outside their own city or state. The trip will expose the girls to potentially new cities and states; giving them exposure to different climates, terrains, people, cultures, sights and sounds.
Historical Facts and Landmarks – Visits to culturally significant landmarks and/or historical sites are planned between the college tours to expose the girls to specific historical events and facts available in the areas of our visits.
Social Development and Relationship Building- Girls will meet new people and have the opportunity to work in groups and create a presentation. Peer learning activities will take place throughout the tour.
